Featured Artifacts – 1864 Confederate Decline


The Battle of New Market occurred on May 15, 1864. Seven boys from the Albemarle region were attending Virginia Military Institute (VMI) during this time and many fought in the battle.

MEDAL, Valor and Case
In 1904 the medal was given to VMI cadets who participated in the battle of New Market. This medal was given to Willam Lumsden.
