Reproduction uniform depicts men such as Welcome Lee who joined the United States Colored Troops.  Lee was a slave laborer from Elizabeth City who escaped to Roanoke Island where he worked for the Union Army Quartermaster Corps building and repairing fortifications at Roanoke Island and Newbern, North Carolina and in Alexandria, Virginia.
